Commission a Painting

Description of image

“How can I commission a painting?”

Thank you for your interest in Marisabel Gonzalez’s art. It would be her honour to create a bespoke piece that reflects your vision. Before beginning, it is essential to explore Marisabel’s distinctive artistic style, as she remains true to her creative approach and does not replicate styles outside her portfolio. We invite you to browse through her collections and portfolio to discover the pieces that resonate with you. Take note of your preferences and what draws you to particular works. Once you’ve gathered your thoughts, simply complete the commission form with as much detail as possible.Upon receiving the completed form, Marisabel will arrange a consultation—either in person or via Zoom—offering a personal touch to discuss your vision and ensure every detail is carefully considered.

What is the process?

The process is divided into four stages.

  • Phase 1 -

    The Discovery Phase

  • Phase 2 -

    Hands On Phase

  • Phase 3 -

    Pre-release Phase (Optional)

  • Phase 4 -

    Delivery Phase

Phase 1 - The Discovery Phase

During this stage, Marisabel will require detailed images and videos of the space where the artwork will be displayed. For larger projects, a site visit may also be arranged if necessary. Following this consultation, Marisabel will provide a tailored proposal. Once the proposal is approved, the creative process will commence. It’s important to note that Marisabel’s artistic approach is intuitive and moment-driven, meaning she does not work with drafts or preliminary sketches. Additionally, no deposit payments are required at this stage (further details provided below).

Questions Marisabel May Ask During This Phase:

  • Have you been drawn to a particular work of mine in the past? Which one and why?
  • Do you want a single artwork? Or a multi-paneled work?
  • Size of the artwork concerning the intended location.
  • Colour palette
  • Motif or story behind the piece.
  • Conversations you want the painting to encourage.
  • Budget.
  • Framing
Phase 2 - Hands On Phase

This is when the magic unfolds. Marisabel will gather all the provided information and let her creativity flow, bringing your vision to life with her distinctive artistic touch.

Phase 3 - Pre-release Phase (Optional)

Some collectors choose to skip this stage, trusting Marisabel’s judgement and embracing the element of surprise. However, she understands that not everyone feels the same. Her priority is ensuring the artwork aligns with expectations, so she is happy to provide a sneak peek just before it’s completed. At this point, Marisabel can make final adjustments and refinements, though major changes will not be possible.

Phase 4 - Delivery Phase

This is when the final payment is collected, and the artwork is delivered to you. The result? A proud collector, a delighted artist, and curious neighbours asking how they can commission a painting of their own!

FAQs

On average, it will take up to 8 weeks to complete a commission work. Complex requests can take longer periods and will be discussed during the Discovery Phase.

No! I am probably the only crazy artist in the world doing this! Why? I am sure you will love it but if you don’t, I am also sure that I’ll be able to sell it. This takes the pressure out for both of us.

But as with every rule there is an exemption, and in this case T&C’s apply to any  commercial projects and commissions.

Paying a deposit puts pressure on my creative juices, so I prefer to avoid this and concentrate on giving you the best possible result. Also, during the Discovery Phase, we will go in-depth through your expectations, and if I feel I won’t be able to deliver what you are requesting, I won’t accept the commission.

Yes. Shipping fees apply. As with any international order, any customs charges are the responsibility of the buyer.

Feeling a bit unsure? That’s totally okay! Since there’s no deposit needed, you can relax — there's no pressure here! I can still sell the artwork, and our friendship will remain intact. Just a heads-up, this doesn’t cover special requests or commercial projects, but we’ll chat about those details and come to an agreement during our discovery phase.

Yes. This markup from the retail price covers for the time spent during our discovery session and outsourcing materials for your customised painting. I try to keep this as minimal as possible and I’m all about transparency, so the details will be disclosed within my written proposal.

I have a very busy exhibition and project schedule, which is usually booked a year in advance. Commissions are only accepted in between these events. I recommend booking early if you are planning a special occasion gift.

Yes! But in this case, term and conditions apply.
