Sauvage

My practice has long explored the body as a site of memory, where experience is held in layers and subtle transformations over time. During my artist in residence at Krinklewood Biodynamic Vineyard, I recognised a similar language within the land itself. The vineyard revealed its own anatomy: soil, fruit, skin, and season; each carrying the marks of labour, climate, and care. Like wine, these paintings emerge through layers, time, and transformation. In several works, pigments derived from grape skins harvested at the vineyard were incorporated into the surface. Through this gesture, the vineyard becomes not only a subject, but a material presence within the work.

SAUVAGE reflects on the shared condition of body and land: both shaped by visible and invisible forces, both marked by cycles of stress and renewal, both constantly becoming.

Original artwork.

123 x 93 x 6 cm. The heat settles into the body, repetition takes over, and everything slows under its own weight. This work emerged from that space where effort, feeling and body converged.Layers were built and softened, pressed and released, echoing the rhythm of long days in the vineyard.
